It has been reported
that the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Dr. Lee Hsien
Loong, was caught in an online gambling chat room while he was in Singapore.
His colleagues said that it was unacceptable and that they were not sure if it
was him being chatty or if he is a gambler. The President of the National
Council for Peace and Order said that they were definitely going to get to the
bottom of this matter and that the local police are investigating this case.
What is the big deal
with this in-game chat? It seems quite innocent. Why would an elected official
be talking about how to cheat at his game of poker and his own gambling
activities? Why would he be chatting with other gamblers on his online poker
site?
It seems like the
president's office is pushing their boss for their "campaigning"
under Victory165. The gambling site is apparently located in Malaysia. This
shows that the president and his staff are trying to bring the Malaysian site
down as a political football. It was after all a political campaign stop for
the president and now the press is also calling for these gamblers to face
charges.
The gamblers are a
gambler, not the leader of the opposition. They are not from any part of the
world and do not even work for the government. It is not an election year and
not a good time to be talking about cheating and how to cheat at a game of
poker.
One thing is clear, if
the media is calling for these two gamblers to face charges then the federal
government should be following suit and putting out a statement to allay any
suspicions that someone may have about these high level political activity. We
need to have some sort of cover story. Some politician will probably say that
these people are only part of the opposition because they are conservative.
There is a Chinese blog
called "Taiwan-Times" that is owned by Yahoo! who sponsors the post
office in Singapore? There are a number of online users of Yahoo! blogs and
websites that are simply doing a search and get the information about the online gambling singapore.
Would you really want
your leader to be talking about his own gambling in a chat room with other
gamblers? Do you really think that these gamblers are against you and your
government? Will the government put a stop to this completely inappropriate
political campaign chat in an office space?
The Chairman of the
House of Representatives, Mr. Ong Teng Cheong has called the Yahoo! blog team
in Singapore and asked them to step up immediately and remove the illegal
posting and stop referring to victory165.com as "official government
website".
